Methodology
We are conducting this
primary research in an attempt to understand and develop our understanding of
the pop genre from these select music videos; as we analyse and discuss the
unique conventions, themes and basic understanding of the music video and what
it implies unto the audience.
We have decided to create
a Pop music video, which has an intresting narrive to the music videos by not
taking attention away from the song, but accompanying the audio to create a
better visual experience that also helps tell a story that is trying to be
portrayed through the audio of the song. Alongside this, we will be trying to identify
different information about Pop since it is such a popular genre, that takes up
the majority of the music industry. We imagine with the current generation that
the interest in the Pop genre is very huge with people of this generation
looking to these Pop stars as idols and I imagine the youngest people would
start looking up to these Pop stars is around 12-13 years of age, and will
probably continue up to around the age of 16-17, as anyone over the age of
17-18 are probably not interested in what pele are doing in a music video and
are more interested in their own lives.
Our primary research will
include research from small focus groups, of people within the age category of
13-17, with some potential focus groups slightly above this age to check we have
not misinterpreted the intended age cagory. Alongside this we will be producing
questionnaires on Survey Monkey to question the desired audience on what they
are interested in about the Pop genre, both visually and sound wise. However we
also have critical questionnaires that will make the participants question hat
they like and don’t like which we can use to our advantage to create a much
more enjoyable music video. Alongside this we have been able to contact and
discuss with members of the media industry working on music videos to help us
create the best industry grade music video possible.
We will also be analysing
different music videos under the VEVO “YouTube “chananel, that provides the
main source of music videos for people to watch. By analysing both the visual
element and the audio aspect we will be able to create a video that binds both
of the medias together. From this we will be able to create a visual platform
that will give a better understanding / depth to the music vie that will create
a better viewing experience.
For our secondary research
we will be focusing on the quantitative and qualitative research from the
information gathered from our analysis from “Youtube””Survey Monkey”and the
music top 50’s music lists to help us gather the different information so we
can create an effective and productive music video. However our secondary
research will have to be checked and codnsidered to ensure that the information
given is relative to our studies.
